Take a trip to the Dewart Livestock Auction
by Julie on Fri Jun 02, 2006 11:54 AM
So this week I'm staying with my dad's parents, Nana & Pop, in Milton, Pennsylvania. Every Monday, Pop (who's going to be 90 this year) goes to the Dewart Livestock Auction, and I went with him this week! We got there ultra early, after visiting his friend George in a nursing home. The auction looks pretty empty in some of the spots because we got there so early, but it really started to fill up after a couple hours...

It's a really interesting old place; it reminded me of Haar's Drive-In sometimes, especially the "restaurant" inside...it smelled like grease and french fries! Keep an eye out for a few pictures of some Amish folk there...I didn't know until I got home that most Amish people don't let anyone take their picture. Try to find the few pictures that I did manage to get, and see if you can find the one picture of me hiding in a hotspot somewhere!

AND! don't forget to register a log-in name! Click support at the top of this page, then click on "forums." You should be able to register a name from there and comment on anything you want!

See Zelda's and Hufnagle Park in Lewisburg
by Julie on Thu Jun 08, 2006 12:29 PM
This week, my good friend Sarah came to visit me at Oma's! After hanging out with Oma for awhile, we went into town so I could show Sarah the coffee shop I go to when I need wireless internet. It's a really neat place called Zelda's Café in Lewisburg, and it's right near a really nice park on Market Street. Check it out!

Also, I believe some people have been having trouble figuring out how to navigate in my tours. All you need to do is put your mouse arrow over the picture box, and it'll show up as a yellow arrow. You can put it in the center to go forward, to the left to go left, and to the right to go right...OR you can jump around by clicking on points on the map.

Have fun and check out the best coffee shop in alllll of Lewisburg Wink

Walk to Eckels' Ice Cream on Jubilee Day
by Julie on Fri Jun 16, 2006 10:05 AM
I came home this week with Oma, so I've been seeing a lot of my friends in Dillllsburg! Teresa and I wanted to go to Eckels' Ice Cream, a really neat place we found over Christmas break a few months ago. It's in Mechanicsburg, which is where Oma spend a lot of her childhood...she used to work in a beauty salon a few blocks away. When I mentioned that Teresa and I were going to go to Eckels', she told me that she used to go there sometimes in the 1930s with girls she worked with! They're open Thursdays through Sundays, so I had to wait until Thursday to go...and I didn't realize it til that morning when Mom told me, but that was Jubilee Day in Mechanicsburg. I had only been to Jubilee Day once, and I was really scared of it...it's the largest one day street fair in America or on the East Coast or something like that, but I went when I was ten, and I didn't like the copious amounts of people...I just remember being small and stuck in between large people so I couldn't ever walk anywhere.

I was expecting it to be grossly-crowded again, but it was actually pretty fun! I got a bunch of neat shots of people on Main Street outside of Eckels', and of course I got shots of the inside of Eckels'. They were a drug store and an ice cream parlor, so now they have an antique pharmacy museum in the back of the store. Also, a scene for the movie Girl, Interrupted, was shot at Eckels'. If you've seen the movie, it's the one where Whoopi Goldberg takes the girls to get ice cream, and they torment the customers inside. So, along with all of the pharmacy memorabilia in the store, there is also a lot of Girl, Interrupted memoribilia!

Make sure you turn all around with the yellow arrows in this tour by putting your mouse point over the pictures; there are really neat hot spots everywhere on every point!

Explore Williamsburg, Virginia
by Julie on Wed Jun 28, 2006 2:59 PM
This weekend was the anticipated trip to Williamsburg, Virginia with my regiment! We go to it once a year during the summer, and it's usually insanely hot. And by "usually" I mean "always." It's so much fun, though, and so worth it! We got there on Thursday, stayed in a hotel that night (but only because we couldn't set up tents yet!), and then marched into Williamsburg and "took the town" on Friday. We stayed until Sunday. Check out my tour; it's chock full of awesome people and places, and awesome hot spots. Afterward, make sure to go into "Support" to the forums and sign up for a name by clicking "register" so you can leave comments if you want to say what you think!
