Washingtonville Community Building
by Julie on Thu Aug 03, 2006 2:13 PM
This week I'm staying with Nana and Pop, and when I got there on Sunday, I told them a few things I wanted to do while I was there. One thing that I wanted to do was go to the Washingtonville Community Building. Nana called around to some different people, and in about an hour, we were there! It's an awesome place, only about twenty minutes from Nana & Pop's house. A man named Frank DeLong was a millionaire who lived there, and he donated his money pretty generously to the community. The community building is a memorial of his mother, Jane DeLong; there's a library in the bottom and a community hall on the second floor with a stage and lots of old chairs. Pop says that he used to put on plays there with kids of the town, and my cousin Harold Sechler has old toys from the 1920s or 1930s that Frank DeLong bought and handed out to kids of the town for Christmas in the community building.

Anyway, take the tour...the building is so awesome, and there are so many old, interesting things in it.

Aunt Barb's Farm
by Julie on Tue Aug 15, 2006 9:07 AM
I spent last week with Aunt Barb! She is my dad's only sister. It was a great week filled with such adventures as movie watching, tea room visiting, and smoothie making! Aunt Barb lives on a farm, so we would go over to the farm each day to feed cats and to walk around. The farm is beautiful, especially the view of the fields, so I shot a tour of it! There are tons of hotspots of flowers and cats, so don't miss anything!

The Tavern at Fort Ontario
by Julie on Tue Aug 29, 2006 6:28 AM
Hello, friends! Last weekend was my last reenactment of the season in Fort Ontario, New York! It was awesome. On Saturday night, the fort converted one of the underground casemates into a tavern with free refreshments! It was so much fun. Sarah and I made friends with this one family, this young married couple Jeff & Debbie, and their eleven year-old nephew, Johnny. They were so much fun to talk to and play cards with!

Anyway, the casemate tavern was amazing...while reenacting, events don't usually feel "real," but, walking down into the tavern really felt 18th-century. Check it out; it's good fun.
